Mrs Claire Greenaway, Vice Chair and Parent Governor has provided further details:
Are there any community-minded people out there looking for rewarding volunteer work who have the time and enthusiasm to support children in the local area? If so, The Mary Towerton Primary School in Studley Green has a position open to join the Governing Board.
Having transitioned from infants to full primary age-range, this small, friendly school is looking for a new governor to help the board make a positive contribution to the education, development and well-being of the pupils.
As a board, we both support and challenge the school in equal measure, to help raise standards and monitor resources effectively, whilst championing the ethos of the school and its invaluable place within our community.
As School Governors, we work as a team and come from a wide range of backgrounds with varied skills and experiences. We welcome the highest range of diversity and would be delighted to hear from anyone of any background, age, work- and life-experience who might be interested.
To give you an idea of time commitments, the Board meets 2 to 3 times a term for an evening meeting of around 1.5hours.
Pre-COVID, we attended school events, accompanied school trips and visited the school during class-time (this usually works out at about one visit per governor per year as we each cover a different aspect of the school or year group). Throughout lock-downs, with home-learning/school opening for key-worker children, we were able to continue provide support for the school community with remote Board meetings and socially distanced visits.
We are now excited to be starting in-person visits again to see how the heart of the school ticks in real life. Attending performances and community events put on by the children, staff, parents and our governing team last term was an absolute joy.
No previous experience is necessary as there are a wealth of information and training opportunities and resources when you join a governing team.
If anyone is potentially interested (no immediate commitment!), do feel free to contact me directly for a chat, or Mrs Mann, school Head Teacher, or our Chair of Governors, Mrs Bernadette Allison, email@example.com
Thank you for your time reading this.
