Inspiring all to reach their potential

Maple Class

Welcome to Maple Class!

We are looking forward to an exciting and fun year in Maple Class. Please see below for notices and more key information about what we are learning this year.

Can all children please bring a named water bottle everyday.

Our PE days for the Summer Term are Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Can all children please come to school in their PE kit on this day.

Children are expected to read aloud to an adult at home as regularly as possible. Similarly, TT Rockstars and Reading Eggs should be completed at home on a regularly basis (at least 3 times a week). If you require any further information or the login details for your child, please email the school office.

Summer 1 English

This half term we will be writing character descriptions and developing our descriptive writing skills through visualisation and the use of a thesaurus. We will then develop these descriptions into a piece of dialogue writing in order to punctuate speech accurately. Towards the end of the half term, we will be using our speaking and listening skills to debate issues and write a balanced argument. Our class novel will be Street Child by Berlie Doherty. Children do not need to have their own copy of the book, although it is recommended.

Summer 1 Maths

We will be continuing our learning using the Power Maths scheme this year. This half term Year 4, 5 and 6 will be learning about fractions, converting weights and measurements, shapes and angles, calculating area and perimeter. SATs practice questions will be embedded into each Maths lesson in preparation for the Year 6 SATs. We will apply formal written methods to solve problems and answer word problems, alongside mental arithmetic strategies.

Maple will begin swimming on Monday 16th May and subsequent Mondays until the end of the academic year. More information will be disclosed in a future parent letter.
